“Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” This is just one quote from Red, one of the main characters in the film “Shawshank Redemption.”

“Shawshank Redemption,” created in 1994 and directed by Frank Darabont, is hands-down one of the greatest movies of all time.

This movie is about a man named Andy Dufresne, a young and successful banker man. His life changes completely when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. He gets sent to the Ohio State Reformatory, where he goes through struggles and triumphs. The man was wrongly accused of murder, but his life at prison is so much more important. He makes new friends, enemies, and changes the perspective and demeanor of the prison forever.

In the beginning, you think that the movie is about how Andy finds out who actually killed his wife and finds a way to redeem himself. But you soon realize that there’s so much more to Andy than his wrongful conviction.

When Andy first arrives, it was one of the hardest times during his life. He was tormented by fellow inmates, and was beat up and teased on a daily basis. A month later, Andy approaches Red, who is notorious for the contraband he brings in. Andy has a passion for rock collecting and sculpting, so he asks him for a rock hammer.

Andy eventually makes a lot of friends, including Red. He makes a big difference at the prison, creating a library and helping the security guards with their taxes.

This movie has a lot more to it than what meets the eye. This movie, based off of the novella by Stephen King, is one of the best movies ever created.
